Choose together

If you’re helping a parent, partner, or friend find a Sudoku app, let them try it on the phone they will use. Ask which digits are easiest to recognize and whether the board feels comfortable to scan.

A screenshot on your larger phone may not represent their experience. Check the actual puzzle, its number-entry controls, and any instructions. Give them time to explore without taking over the screen.

Separate a new interface from a new game

An experienced paper solver may only need to learn how to enter and erase a number. A beginner also needs the rules. Start with the part that is unfamiliar, and avoid explaining everything at once.
